4. Vehicle Grading

NAMA Vehicle Grading is a single scheme that has been adopted across the auction sector to guarantee a consistent vehicle grading standard. The scheme benefits auction buyers quite simply by giving a clear and definable indication of a vehicle condition, allowing buyers to purchase with confidence.

LCV (VAN) Grading

16/09/2025

The Fleet Auction Group is pleased to announce the adoption of NAMA Vehicle Grading for Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs).

With immediate effect, you will notice our LCV stock transitioning from the previous Bronze, Silver, and Gold grading system to the new NAMA Vehicle Grading scale of 1 to 5. We expect all LCV stock to be fully NAMA graded within the next couple of weeks.

To familiarise yourself with the new grading system, please visit the About section of our website and click on the Vehicle Grading icon to view the LCV grading guide.

As always, our team is on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding the new system, so please don’t hesitate to contact the LCV department.

This guide is for commercial vehicle grading. The definition of a car or LCV is decided on its status as registered with the DVLA.

A NAMA appraisal is to identify Exterior and Interior cosmetic defects only and these will form the grade.

Only exterior defects which are visible from the Standard Viewing Angle (SVA) of 2 metres at 90 degrees plus or minus 45 degrees will be recorded. Light Commercial Vehicles have a distinct working / loading area. Paint damage in these areas is classed as general wear and tear and will not affect the grade. Damage affecting / altering the shape of a panel will have an impact on the vehicle grade.

The grade does not cover the following:

•Keys, service history, ancillary equipment

•Defects not visible from 2m – i.e. underbody and under bonnet

•Identification of previously painted panels

•Defects visible via climbing or crouching

•Any unavoidable wear to components related to normal usage i.e. creases to leather seats •Mechanical or electrical operation of any interior / exterior component Definition of Poor Previous Paintwork (PPR)

•PPR will be included on an appraisal if it is clearly visible from 2 metres in normal lighting •Minor dirt inclusions, silicones, orange peel and minor overspray will not be considered PPR

The Fleet Auction Group grades both the interior and exterior condition of all LCVs, meaning that each vehicles will be represented by a colour and a number.

An example of a top quality LCV would be 'Gold 1' whereas an average vehicle with a poor interior would be graded as a 'Silver 3'
